QuestionAnswer
air resistance Forces that oppose the relative motion of an object through a fluid - (liquid or gas)
amplitude The distance between the position of rest and the highest swing of a pendulum.
control varible Is all of the other foactors that would affect the result of the experiment. These vaiables are held constant.
dependent varible Is the part of the experiment that scientists focus their observations on to see how it reponds to the change made to the independent varible.
independent varible Is one that is changed by the scientist. A good experiment has only one independent varible.
Newton's 2nd law of motion Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the moss (of the obect being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object). F=MA or Force=Mass x Acceleration
Newton's 3rd law of motion For every action, there is an equal and opposite RE-action.
pendulum A weight suspended from a pivot, so it can swing freely.
period An interval of time having a specified length.
varible Things that are changed during an investigation.
acceleration The change in velocity over time.
contact force A force betweem two objects that are in contact with each other.
gravity Is the attracting between any two objects that have mass.
hypothesis A statement that "appears" to explain a set of facts. An educated guess.
mass The measure of the amount of matter contained in a physical object.
