Forces in Motion
| Vocabulary Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| free fall | The condition an object is in when gravity is the only force acting on it. |
| intertia | The tendency of all objects to resist any change in motion. |
| momentum | The property of a moving object that depends on the object's mass and velocity. |
| projectile motion | The curved path an object follows when thrown or propelled near the surface of Earth. |
| terminal velocity | The constant velocity at which a falling object travels when the size of the upward force of air resistance matches the size of the downward force of gravity. |
| Newton's First Law of Motion | An object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. |
| Newton's Second Law of Motion | The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied. ma=F or a=F/m or m=F/a |
| Newton's Third Law of Motion | Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first. |
