Chapter 12 vocab and periodic table

Vocabulary WordDefinition
Periodic Describes something that occurs or repeats at regular intervals.
Periodic law The law that states that the repeating chemical and physical properties of elements change periodically with atomic numbers of the elements.
Period In chemistry, a horizontal row of elements in the periodic table.
Group A vertical column of elements in the periodic table.
Alkali Metal One group of elemtents of group one of the periodic table.
Alkaline-earth metal One group of elements of group 2.
Halogen One of the elements in group 17 of the periodic table. (Halogens combine with most metals to form salts)
Noble Gas One of the elements of Group 18 of the periodic Table. (Noble Gasses are unreactive.)
