| BASIN | a broad, flat area surrounded by hills or mountains |
| BAY | a small area of ocean partly surrounded by land |
| CANAL | a man-made waterway for transportation or irrigation |
| CANYON | a narrow valley with high, steep sides |
| CHANNEL | a narrow waterway connecting two bodies of water |
| DELTA | a land deposit at a river's mouth |
| GULF | a large body of water partly surrounded by land |
| HARBOR | a sheltered area along a seacoast where ships can anchor |
| ISLAND | land completely surrounded by water |
| ISTHMUS | a narrow strip of land connecting two larger land areas |
| LAKE | a large body of water completely surrounded by land |
| MARSH | low, wet land |
| MESA | a flat-topped hill with steep sides; common in deserts |
| PEAK | the pointed top of a mountain |
| PENINSULA | land surrounded by water on three sides |
| PLAIN | a large area of flat or gently rolling land |
| PLATEAU | an area of high flat land |
| RESERVOIR | a man-made3 lake for storing water |
| STREAM | a small body of flowing water |
| TRIBUTARY | a stream that flows into a larger river |
