Brain Stem vital life functions (like heart rate and breathing); includes the medulla
Reticular acivation system sleep/wake patterns, attention focus/awareness; eye movement; some voluntary movement
cerebellum voluntary movement; motor coordination; balance; high dopamine concentration
Thalamus relays sensory and motor signals to appropriate brain area for ALL BUT SMELL signal
Amygdala fear and emotions; high seratonin concentration
Hippocampus events and factual memory (NOT skill-based); high acetylcholine concentration
Hypothalamus reward center, eating behavorios, hormone control (controls pituary gland), homeostasis; high
Pituitary Gland makes and release hormones (master gland); signaled by hypothalamus to signal adrenal glands to release adrenaline (with endocrine)
Cerebral Cortex outer most brain layer; higher level processing, perception, thinking, language, decision-making, voluntary movement.
