rhythm how the sounds of the poem rises and falls just like the "beats" in music
rhyme a word that ends in the same sound or almost the same sound as another word
repetition repeating the same word, group of words, or sentence
imagery description that uses the five senses
anonymous without a name
antonym a word that means the opposite of another word
synonym a word or phrase that has the same or almost the same meaning as another word or phrase
immortal living or lasting forever
meter a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables used to create rhythm in a poem
free verse a style of poetry writing without regular meter, patterns or rhythm
prose the ordinary language people use in speaking or writing
onomatopoeia use of words whose sounds suggest their meanings
alliteration repetition of the same stressed consonant sound in a group of words
theme the message the author wants you to learn from the story
synthesize to take parts and bring them together to form the same idea
selfless caring more for what other people need and want rather than for what you yourself need and want
honorable honest and fair, or deserving praise or respect
