Governments

Autocracy A type of government where the power is held by one person or a few people; the citizens have no voice
Dictatorship One person controls the government which he/she took control of using military force (in most cases).
Absolute monarchy An autocratic form of government where a king or queen rules with no limits on his/her power.
Fascism An autocratic form of government with a dictator as its leader; it allows no opposition to the governement; there is usually some element of racism
Oligarchy An autocratic form of government were only a few people are in control and have a voice in the government (often the very wealthy/elite)
Democracy A type of government where the power belongs to the people; the citizens have a voice in their government.
Direct democracy A form of democracy where all citizens vote on every issue.
Direct democracy Ancient Athens is an example of this form of democracy.
Dictatorship North Korea is an example of this type of autocratic government.
Absolute monarchy Saudi Arabia is an example of this type of autocratic government.
Fascism Nazi Germany in the 1930s/19040s is an example of this type of autocratic government.
Oligarchy Ancient Sparta is an example of this type of autocratic government.
Indirect democracy A form of democracy where citizens elect representatives to make decisions on the issues instead of voting on every issue themselves.
Indirect democracy The U.S. is this type of democracy (not specific).
Republic A type of indirect democratic government where the law protects the rights of all citizens, and citizens elect their representatives.

Constitutional monarchy A king or queen has limits placed on his/her power by a constitution or other legislation in this form of democracy.
Constitutional monarchy The U.K., Norway, and Thailand operate under this type of democratic government.

Anarchy The lack of an organized government. No rule.
