EAP Mod 2 Vocabulary

Experimental Analysis of Behavior Module 2 Vocabulary and Definitions

QuestionAnswer
Motivating Operation (MO) environmental variable that changes the value of a given reinforcer and alters the current frequency of behavior that would access that reinforcer, value or behavior altering effect
Establishing Operation (EO) factor that makes a reinforcer more valuable and increase behavior that accesses it
Abolishing Operation (AO) factor that makes a reinforcer less valuable and decrease behavior that accesses it
Multiple Schedule type of compound schedule where same behavior is targeted with different stimuli
Mixed Schedule type of compound schedule where the same behavior is targeted with the same stimuli
Chained Schedule type of compound schedule where each step has its own SD signaling progress towards reinforcement and each needs to be completed prior to reinforcement
Tandem Schedule type of compound schedule where the same chains are joined without any distinct stimuli to indicate which schedule is in effect
Alternative Schedule type of compound schedule where schedules are in place at the same time and either schedule is met first prior to reinforcement
Conjunctive Schedule type of compound schedule where schedules are in place at the same time both schedules must be met to gain reinforcement
Concurrent Schedule type of compound schedule where different responses/ behaviors are targeted at the same time on two different schedules, one response at a time/reinforcer can be different
Concurrent-Chains Schedule involves two or more concurrent chained schedules (at the same time) each chain has different SDs and schedules, reinforcement after the "chosen" schedule is completed, choice/delayed effects
Conditioned Reinforcer these reinforcers get their reinforcing power through pairing with other both unconditioned and conditioned reinforcers
Generalized Conditioned Reinforcer paired with various reinforcers these are effective across people, settings/environments and situations
Token Reinforcement within a contingency system arbitrary but impactful tokens are given for targeted behaviors, the tokens don't have innate value, rather, they are powerful conditioned reinforcers due to pairing with preferred reinforcers and exchangeability
Resistance to Extinction (RTE) after reinforcement of a targeted behavior ceases a behavior shows resistance to the procedure for extended or shorter times, reinforcement schedules have a significant impact
Partial Reinforcement Effect when the reinforcement isn't predictable it can lead to behaviors being fortified against extinction procedures, intermittent schedules known to result in >RTE
Behavioral Momentum likelihood that behavior response will stay momentous and appropriate with ongoing reinforcement starting with high probability then low probability behaviors
Spontaneous Recovery (Operant) after the reinforcer is withheld the behavior may return even if the reinforcer isn't reinstated, *unlike in respondent conditioning the CS-US pairing with return of CR (reflex)
Resurgence when a previously reinforced behavior reappears after a newer reinforced behavior is placed on extinction
Reinstatement when a previously extinguished behavior reappears due to the previous reinforcers availability after extinction, if the environment cues that the old reinforcer is available the behavior returns

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
