| Term | Definition |

| Psychoanalytic | (thumb points behind) focuses on how our past experiences and unconscious mind impact our current behavior and mental processes |
| Cognitive | (pointer finger points to temple) examines internal mental processes such as problem solving, memory, and language |
| Behavioral | (the bird) the environment influences the behavior that we learn through reinforcement and punishment |
| Humanism | (easier to stand up ring finger with aid of another) focuses on how we meet our needs for love and acceptance & achieve self-fulfillment (being our best self) |
| Biological | (pinky is small & mighty) Studying the parts of our physical body (neurons, brain, immune system, genetics (little DNA) |
| Sociocultural | (palm, everything comes together) Society comes together and influences a person's behavior and mental processes |
| Evolutionary | (bow and arrow) Certain traits have persisted due to natural selection. We behave and think the way we do because that's how we learned to survive. |
