T6- Interactions and Ecosystems
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Biotic | Living Organisms in an ecosystem. Like animals, plants and bacteria. |
| Abiotic | Things in an ecosystem that are not alive and have never been alive. (WARTS water, air, rocks, temperature and soil). |
| Photosynthesis | The process in which producers make glucose using energy from sunlight. |
| Energy Source | Sunlight is energy from the sun that plants need. |
| Carbon dioxide | The gas that is taken in by plants. |
| Roots | Roots take in water. |
| Oxygen | The gas that is released by plants. |
| Cycle of Matter | Food equals energy for plants and animals. |
| Producer | An organism that makes its own energy during photosynthesis. (For example, grass and flowers). |
| Decomposer | An organism that breaks down dead plants and animals for energy. (For example, fungi and mushrooms). |
| Consumer | An organism that must eat to get energy. |
| Carnivore | An organism that eats only animals. |
| Herbivore | An organism that eats only plants. |
| Omnivore | An organism that eats both plants and animals. |
| Food Webs/Food Chains | A food chain outlines who eats whom. A food web is all of the food chains in an ecosystem. |
| Human Impact | Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: pollution, burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and more. Changes like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, mass extinction, and undrinkable water, among other effects. |
| Nature Bridge/Wildlife Crossing | Helps animals live safely near a road by letting them cross the road safely. |
| Organisims | An organism is defined as an entity with life. Both living things and non-living things. |
