Tie Joins two notes to form one sound with the combined number of beats
Rhythm The short and long pattern of sounds in music
Beat The steady pulse in music
Measure The space between the bar lines on the staff
Bar lines Divides music in measures
Half rest Two beats, no sound
Whole note 4 beats, one sound, rhythm word ta-a-a-a
Whole rest 4 beats, no sound
Pickup or Upbeat An incomplete measure at the beginning of a song
Eighth note 1/2 beat, rhythm word ti, one flag
Eighth rest 1/2 beat, no sound, one knob
