Define Human Diversity It is a vast range of differences among people, including unique, physical, personal, and cultural characteristics that make individuals distinct
What is cultural globalization? It is the worldwide rapid exchange of values, ideas, traditions, and cultural products.
What are characteristics of human diversity? Age, Ethnicity and national origin, Race, Gender and sexual relationship, Mental and physical ability, Religion, Work style or ethic, Family status, Geographic location, Lifestyle, Physical features, Economic conditions, Political beliefs, etc.
What is personal bias? It is a learned automatic prejudice or preference for or against a specific group, person, thing, or idea
What is the difference between assimilation vs biculturalism? Assimilation requires you to give up your original culture to fit into a dominant one, while biculturalism allows you to maintain your heritage while adopting a new culture
What are examples of age-based generations? Greatest generation, Silent generations, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z
What is ethnicity, race, and national origin? These are three ways to define a person's background and identity.
What is race? Race is a social category on perceived physical characteristics.
What is ethnicity? Ethnicity is based on shared history, cultural traditions, ancestry, and language
What is national origin? It is the specific country where a person was born or holds citizenship
What are examples of sexual orientation? It includes heterosexual, homosexuality, and bisexuality
What is cultural diversity in healthcare? This directly impacts patient treatment adherence, survival rates, and overall medical trust
What are the four essential core values of human rights law? These are autonomy, dignity, equality, and solidarity
What is cultural competency? It is the ability of healthcare professionals and organizations to respect, understand, and effectively respond to the unique cultural needs, languages, and values of diverse patient populations
What is emotional intelligence? It is the ability to understand, recognize, reason, and manage with your own emotions while interpreting accurately and influencing the emotions of others
How would you deal with a terminally ill patient? I would shift my focus to caring for the patient while I'm imaging him/her instead of just wanting to obtain the images. I will use active presence, a calm tone, maintain eye contact, and validate the patient and their family's grief.
How would you deal with a patient who has cultural and religious beliefs? I would use a structured approach centered on negotiation, communication, and respect
