statistical reasoning

TermDefinition
descriptive stats numerical data used to measure and describe characteristics of groups
skewed distribution describes representation of scores that lack symmetry around value average (averages with lower variation are more accurate)
Range difference between highest and lowest scores
standard deviation measure of how much scores vary around the mean
normal curve bell shaped curve, represents that most scores fall near mean
inferential stats numerical data that allows one to generalize;to infer from a data sample that something is true for an entire population
meta analysis a statistical procedure for analyzing results of multiple studies to reach an overall conclusion
statistical significance a statistical statement of likelihood that a result occurred by chance (0.05 or lower to be significant)
effect size strength of relation between 2 variables
