Geography (vital source) - chapter 7

QuestionAnswer
What is spatial interaction? A specific study of identifying the locations that are the termini of interaction.
What is spacial diffusion? The process by which a concept or practice spreads from origin until it reaches a barrier or overcomes an area.
What are the types of Medical Geography Diffusion? Contagious and Relocation
What is intercontinental migration? Moving to a different continent.
What is intracontinental migration? Movement between and within countries.
What is place utility? Value that an individual puts on a given residential site that helps us understand the decision-making process.
Explain step migration. Place transition through smaller steps of less-extreme location changes.
What indicates that a mover is part of an established migrant flow from origin to the destination? Chain migration.
Give examples of economic barriers to migration. Cost of traveling and cost of establishing a residence elsewhere.
What is a migration field? An area or areas that dominate a location's in and out migration patterns.
Explain channelized migration. Channels link areas that are socially or economically tied to one another.
Why might channelized flow occur? Past migration patterns, economic trade, or other affinity.
What is the increasing interconnection of all parts of the world that also increases integration? Globalization.
