Clark's Rule (Child's dose based on weight in lbs) Child's dose = (Child's weight in lbs/150) x adult dose
Fried's Rule (Infant dose based on age in months) Infant's dose = (Age in months x Adult dose)/150
Young's Rule (Child's dose based on age in years) Child's dose = (Age in years x adult dose)/Age in years + 12
Calculating total dosage needed Total dosage needed = Doses needed per day x number of days prescribed
Calculating number of doses in a container Number of doses in container = Total amount of medication/dose size
Simple dilution of stock liquids SV (Stock volume) × SS (Stock Strength)= DV (Desired volume) × DS (Desired strength)
Simple dilution of stock solids SW (Stock weight) × SS (Stock strength) = DW (Desired weight) × DS (Desired Strength)
Alligation Alternate Tic-tac-toe method, calculates the number of parts of two different percentage strengths that can be mixed together to prepare a third strength that is not available
Alligation Medial Used to determine total percentage strength when two or more substances with known quantities and strengths are mixed
Calculating IV Infusion Rates Infusion rate = Total volume to be infused (mL)/Time (hour, min)
Calculating Drip Rate (gtt/min) Drip rate = Volume (mL) x Drop factor (gtt/mL)/Time (min)
Calculating Markup (Difference in purchase cost of drug and selling price) Markup = Selling price - purchase cost
Calculating Markup Percentage Markup Percentage = (Markup/Purchase cost) x 100%
Calculating Gross Income Gross income = Sales - Cost of inventory
Calculating Net Income Net income = Sales - (Inventory + overhead)
Calculating Reimbursement of prescription Reimbursement of prescription = AWP + or - % of AWP allowed + Dispensing fee
