| Schizophrenia | A mental illness characterized by psychosis or a disconnection from reality including delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized thinking |
| Depression | Mood disorder characterized by low or numb mood and loss of interest in activities due to a combination of physiological and psychosocial factors |
| Bipolar | Mood disorder characterized by extreme mood swings alternating between depressive and manic states |
| Akinesia | Loss of voluntary movement |
| Akathisia | Inability to sit still |
| Tardive Dyskinesia | Involuntary repetitive movements, often affecting the face, mouth, extremities |
| Extrapyramidal Effects | A group of symptoms related to motor control that arise from the use of medication, particularly antipsychotic drugs |
| Atypical Antipsychotic (2nd Generation) | Newer antipsychotics less likely to cause certain extrapyramidal effects |
| Typical Antipsychotic (1st Generation) | Older antipsychotics more likely to cause extrapyramidal effects |
| Prolong QT | An irregular heart rhythm. Patients that take drugs that prolong the QT interval need periodic ECGs and need to be careful with tachycardia. |
| Trismus | A condition characterized by the inability to fully open the mouth due to muscle spasm, rigidity, or mechanical obstruction |
| Sialorrhea | Hypersalivation or drooling. The excessive production of saliva or the inability to effectively manage and swallow saliva. |
| Ageusia | Loss of sense of taste |
| GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) | Inhibitory neurotransmitter that plays a role in mood and stress regulation. Imbalances have been implicated in various psychiatric disorders |
| Serotonin | Neurotransmitter that plays a key role in mood regulation, sleep, appetite, and other physiological processes. Low levels are most commonly associated with depression. |
