Anatomical Directions of the Brain
| Question | Answer |

| rostral/anterior | towards head of a four legged animal |
| Caudal/Posterior | towards the tail of a four legged animal |
| Inferior/ventral | toward the belly of four legged animal |
| Superior/dorsal | towards the back of a four legged animal |
| Neuraxis | imaginary line that runs the length of the spinal cord to the brain |
| Midline | divides the body into two equal halves |
| Ipsilateral | referring to structures on the same side of the midline |
| Contralateral | referring to the structures on the otherside of the midline |
| medial | meaning toward the midline |
| Lateral | meaning away from the midline |
| Proximal | closer to the center |
| Distal | farther away from another structure |
| Coronal section | anatomical section dividing the brain front to back parallel to the face |
| Sagittal section | parallel to the the midline |
| Midsagittal section | divides the brain into two approx equal parts |
| horizontal/axial sections | dives the brain from top to bottom |
