Westward Expansion

Migration movement from one part of something to another.
Vigilante a self-appointed group of citizens who act as law enforcement in their community without legal authority
Exoduster a name given to African Americans who migrated from the south to Kansas in the late 1800’s
Sodbusters A person who operates a farm by digging up the sod or ground with a plow or other tools.
Vaqueros The Spanish word for a cowboy or cattle driver.
Ghost Town a deserted town with few or no remaining inhabitants after the local resource is gone.
Boom Town a town undergoing very fast growth due to a sudden economic growth
Homestead an area of public land in the West - usually 160 acres - granted to any US citizen willing to settle and farm the land for at least five years
