Cognitive Development
| Term | Definition |

| Sensorimotor Stage (Birth–2 years) | Babies learn through senses and actions. Key milestone: Object permanence, understanding that things still exist even when out of sight. |
| Preoperational Stage (2–7 years) | Children start using language and imagination. Thinking is still egocentric – they struggle to see things from others’ perspectives. Key milestone: Egocentrism |
| Concrete Operational Stage (7–11 years) | Logical thinking develops, but only about concrete things. Key milestone: Conservation – understanding that quantity doesn’t change even when appearance does. |
| Formal Operational Stage (12+ years) | Abstract and hypothetical thinking begins. Key milestone: Pendulum problem – shows ability to think scientifically and test variables. |
