Unit 7 level 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Solid | The State of Matter with a definite shape and volume. Particles move very slowly and are ordered |
| Liquid | The State of Matter that can change its shape but not its volume. Particles slide past each other. |
| Gas | The State of Matter in which there is no definite shape or volume. Particles move very quickly |
| Plasma | High-Energy state of matter in which particles are ionized or charged. Consists of ions and electrons |
| Melting | The phase change from a solid to a liquid |
| Freezing | The change of state from a liquid to a solid |
| Evaporation | The change of state from liquid to gas; occurs at a temperature lower than the boiling point |
| Vaporization | The change of state from liquid to gas, at the boiling point |
| Condensation | The change of state from a Gas to a Liquid |
| Sublimation | The change in state from a solid directly to a gas |
| Deposition | The change of state from a gas directly to a solid |
| Boiling Point / Condensation Point | The temperature at which a substance transitions between a liquid and gas. |
| Melting Point / Freezing Point | The temperature at which a substance transitions between a solid and liquid. |
| Kinetic Energy | The energy of an object due to an object’s motion; measured in Joules |
| Temperature | A measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object; measured in *F, *C, or K |
| Thermal Energy | The Total kinetic energy of all the particles in a sample; measured in Joules |
| Kinetic Molecular Theory | Theory based on the idea that all matter is made up of tiny particles that are always in motion. |
