science vocabulary forces

Force A push or pull
Speed Distance over a certain amount of time
Velocity Speed+Direction
Acceleration Change in velocity
Newton Unit of force
Net force Sum of all forces
Unbalanced Forces When forces are unequal and motion occurs
Balanced Forces When forces are equal + no motion occurs
Resultant Overall force in a certain direction
Friction Slows motion
Air resistance Air friction
Weight Mass affected by gravity
Mass Amount of matter in an object
Gravity Force that pulls things
Normal Force Force that holds things up Can act opposite of gravity
Projectile Something pushed or launched and then is affected by gravity pulling it down
Constant velocity Speed + direction remain the same
Inertia The tendency if an object to resist change in motion Newtons first law
Conservation of momentum Momentum before a collision equals momentum after
