Conflict resolution

APM PMQ Competence 11 terminology

TermDefinition
Conflict A disagreement or clash between individuals or groups due to differing interests, values, or goals.
Active listening Fully concentrating, understanding, and responding thoughtfully during discussions to resolve conflict.
Constructive Conflict A type of conflict that leads to positive outcomes, such as improved ideas or stronger relationships.
Destructive Conflict A conflict that harms relationships, reduces productivity, and creates a negative environment.
Negotiation A process where parties discuss differences and seek a mutually acceptable solution.
Mediation Involves a neutral third party helping disputing parties reach an agreement.
Collaboration A conflict resolution style where parties work together to find a win-win solution.
Compromise Each party gives up something to reach a middle-ground solution.
Avoidance A conflict management style where the issue is ignored or postponed.
Assertiveness Communicating needs and opinions confidently without aggression.
