Text Features

TermDefinition
Table of Contents List of chapters in a text and the page number
Maps, Charts, Graphs Provide a visual of data and numeric information
Text box or inset Is seperate from the main text; provides addisional information about a topic
photograph a visual created by a camera
caption a brief explanation of a picture, illustration, or diagram
Index lists of topics in a text and the page number they can be found on
diagram a drawing or picture with labels
Font Styles (bold, italics, underlined, or highlighted) emphasizes the text and shows that it is important
Glossary gives the meanings of words that are specific to the book
Timeline shows important events in the order they happened
headings and subheadings organizes the information in a text to make it easier to locate
colons, bullet points, numbered lists indicate that important information will follow
