Continental Divide An imaginary line in North America where rivers flow either east toward the Atlantic or west toward the Pacific
Great Lakes Five large freshwater lakes (Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario) on the US-Canada border
Prairie Flat or gently rolling grassland, especially in the central United States and Canada
USMCA United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement; a trade deal that replaced NAFTA in 2020
Multicultural Having many different cultures, ethnic groups, and traditions living together in one society
Immigration Moving permanently to a new country
Emigration Leaving your home country to live permanently somewhere else
Indigenous Peoples The original inhabitants of a region who lived there before colonizers arrived
Manifest Destiny The 19th-century belief that Americans were destined to expand across North America
Sun Belt The southern region of the US known for warm weather and population growth
Rust Belt The northeastern and midwestern US region where manufacturing declined, leaving abandoned factories
