TermDefinition
Mechano-receptors Respond to mechanical pressure or distortion.
Kinesthetic Receptors Detects body position and movement.
Thermo-receptors Respond to changes in temperature.
Noci-receptors Detect painful stimuli.
Tactile receptors Called "mechanoreceptors" because they respond to mechanical stimulation (pressure, vibration, or movement)
Meissner corpuscles fast adaptation, small receptive field (FA I)
Merkel cell neurite complexes slow adaptation, small receptive field (SA I)
Pacinian corpuscles fast adaptation, large receptive field (FA II)
Ruffini endings slow adaptation, large receptive field (SA II)
Other types of mechanoreceptors within muscles, tendons, and joints
