CHAPTER 5 Practical Tips for Focusing Your Question and Choosing a Design

Define a reasonable goalfor your research, one that is doable given your time and resources
Spend time considering your own background assumptions and theoretical perspective and how they might influence your research
Spend time thinking about how to operationalize your key concepts and how they can fit into a testable hypothesis
Do not let the methods drive your research. Make sure your research question drives your choice of methods
Consider whether more than one method might be useful for providing converging evidence for your results.
Keep in mind that a solid research question should be testable, falsiliable, and definable
