What are the characteristics of igneous rock Igneous rock are rocks formed by cooled lava or magma. They have crystals in them and can be found in Wicklow mountains. Two examples of igneous rock are granite and basalt
Whats sandstone Sand stone is a sedimentary rock made of compressed sand. They are red in colour, have strata lines ,used in building and found in country kerry
What’s limestone Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed by fossils. It’s permeable and soluble, made of shells, bones and remains of sea creatures compressed together, white and grey in colour and found in the burren
What’s a metamorphic rock A metamorphic rock is an igneous or sedimentary rock that’s been under great heat or pressure
What’s marble Marble was formerly limestone founded in destructive plate boundaries. The colour varies by counties from white to green to red. They are used for kitchen countertops.
What’s quartzite Quartzite was formerly sandstone founded in destructive plate boundaries. They are grey or red and can be found in crough Patrick, county Mayo. They are used for tiles and paving.
What’s a quarry and name positives and negatives of them Quarries are large worksites for extracting rocks. They can create jobs, revenue and can be a tourist attraction but they create lots of noise and pollution disrupting local habitats and ecosystems.
