artery carries blood away from the heart, thick- walled and muscular vessel. carries away from heart
vein carries blood back to heart thinner walls than arteries. carries to heart
capillary tiny vessel where substances are exchanged between the blood and body cells. Connects arteries and veins
blood pressure force from ventricles that give us blood pressure. measured in fore of ventricles
red blood cells carries oxygen
white blood cells fight off diseases
platelets help clot wounds
plasma liquid part of blood, the fluid moves into surrounding tissues
lymphatic system network of vessels that returns fluid to the blood stream.
lymph once the fluid is inside the system. consists of water, white blood cells, dissolved materials such as glucose.
lymph nodes vessels connect to knobs of tissue that filter lymph trapping bacteria and other diseases causing microorganisms in the fluid.
diffusion movement from high concentration to low concentration
breathing in air pressure low, chest moves up and down, muscles contract- ribs and diaphragm.
bronchi two passages that bring air to lungs.
alveoli tiny sacs where gasses move between air and blood.
excretion process of removing wastes
urea chemical produced from the breakdown of proteins. Liver produces this
nephron small filtering structure in the kidneys that removes wastes from blood and produces urine.
circulatory system transports o2 and nutrients
heart beats 100,000 beats per day, size of fist.

takes away co2 right atrium- right ventricle- lungs
CNS brain and spinal cord
PNS network of nerves that branch out from the CNS and connect to the rest of the body
neuron cells that carry info through the nervous system
sensory neuron picks up stimulus from the environment and turns into a message.
inter neuron carries message from one neuron to the next
motor neuron sends message to muscle of gland
synapse junction where one neuron can transfer an impulse to another neuron
automatic system you don't control
