Interstate Highways controlled-access highways designed for high-speed, long-distance travel
Department of Transportation The U.S. federal agency responsible for maintaining and developing the nation's transportation systems and infrastructure (aka DOT)
gas tax A tax imposed on the sale of gasoline, used to fund transportation projects
limited-access highway A type of road designed to limit access points to enhance traffic flow and safety
long-haul trucking a form of trucking where goods are transported over long distances
truck stops the places where truckers stop for services like bathrooms, showers, dentists, etc.
cab the driver's compartment in a truck
freelance working independently rather than being employed by a company
rig a term often used to refer to a truck or tractor-trailer
weigh stations checkpoints where trucks are weighed to ensure compliance with weight regulations
team driving a trucking arrangement where two drivers alternate driving and resting to keep the truck moving continuously
autonomous trucks self-driving trucks that operate without a human driver
convoy a type of travel where vehicles follow each other closely
