| TEU | the space occupied by a 20-foot long container (aka Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) |
| port of call | a scheduled stop at a port for a ship during its voyage |
| slow steaming | the practice of operating ocean ships at significantly less than their maximum speed to save fuel costs and reduce emissions |
| supply chain | the entire system of producing and delivering a product or service, from the supplier of raw materials to the end customer |
| containers | uniform shipping boxes that can be transported globally by ships, trains, and trucks |
| torsion box | A structural steel ring around cargo ships that makes the ship resistant to bending and twisting |
| container ship | a large vessel designed specifically to hold and transport containers stacked high |
| twist lock | a device that locks shipping containers together by twisting into place, securing them during transport |
| crane | a large machine used for lifting and moving heavy objects, such as shipping containers |
