| Electron | a negatively charged particle that moves around the nucleus of an atom |
| Nucleus | the center of an atom that contains protons and neutrons |
| Proton | a positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom |
| Neutron | a particle with no charge found in the nucleus of an atom |
| Atomic mass | the total number of protons and neutrons in an atom’s nucleus |
| Atomic number | the number of protons in an atom, which determines the element |
| Periodic table | a chart that organizes all known elements by their properties and atomic number |
