Sub-atomic particles the smaller parts that make up an atom, including protons, neutrons, and electrons
Electron a negatively charged particle that moves around the nucleus of an atom
Nucleus the center of an atom that contains protons and neutrons
Proton a positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom
Neutron a particle with no charge found in the nucleus of an atom
Atomic mass the total number of protons and neutrons in an atom’s nucleus
Atomic number the number of protons in an atom, which determines the element
Periodic table a chart that organizes all known elements by their properties and atomic number
