What is intelligence? The ability to learn, reason, and solve problems.
What was the Binet and Simon’s First Intelligence Test? Measured “natural intelligence” to place kids in school levels. Tested memory, reasoning, and problem-solving.
What is the ratio IQ? (mental age ÷ actual age) × 100 → used for children.
What is the deviation IQ? compares your score to others your age → used for adults.
What is the Correlation Between IQ and Real-World Outcomes? Higher IQ tends to link with better grades, jobs, health, and income — but not guaranteed for individuals.
What are the theories of intelligence? Two-factor (Spearman), Primary Mental Abilities (Thurstone), Three- Level Hierarchy
What is the two-factor (spearman) ? general ability (g) + specific skills (s)
What is the Primary Mental Abilities (Thurstone)? 7 key skills (word fluency, verbal, math, spatial, memory, etc.).
What is the Three-Level Hierarchy? combines both — general, group, and specific levels.
What is fluid intelligence? ability to solve new problems (peaks early, declines with age).
What is crystalized intelligence? knowledge gained from experience (grows over life).
What is emotional intelligence? Knowing and managing your emotions, understanding others’, and using emotion in thinking.
What are Sternberg's 3 types of intelligence? Analytical, practical, creative
What is analytical intelligence? book smarts.
What is practical intelligence? street smarts.
What is creative intelligence? problem-solving and imagination.
What is Heritability of Intelligence? IQ is influenced by both genes and environment. Twin studies show monozygotic twins’ IQs are more alike than dizygotic twins.
