Detailing Eye
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cornea* | The transparent part of the outer layer covering the eye which light passes through. |
| Iris | The pigmented disk surrounding the pupil which contracts and relaxes to let light in. |
| Pupil | The opening in front of the lens where light enters, size controlled by the iris. |
| Lens* | The structure behind the pupil that focuses a precise image onto the retina. |
| Retina* | Primary visual receptor that converts light into neural signals. It processes visual information such as detecting light intensity, basic edge and motion detection, and some color processing. |
| Fovea* | Where the cones are concentrated that focus onto a specific object that detect color, details, and central focus. |
| Blind Spot* | Part of the visual field in which stimulation cannot be perceived because of the image falls on the optic disk which has no photoreceptors. |
| Rods* | Photoreceptors in the retina that can detect low light levels, and peripheral vision. |
| Cones* | Photoreceptors in the fovea that require more light for activation, and allow us to see details, and color. |
| Bipolar Cells | Cells found in the retina that transmit visual signals. |
| Ganglion Cells | Neurons in the retina that transmit electrical messages concerning visual signals. |
