Detailing Eye

TermDefinition
Cornea* The transparent part of the outer layer covering the eye which light passes through.
Iris The pigmented disk surrounding the pupil which contracts and relaxes to let light in.
Pupil The opening in front of the lens where light enters, size controlled by the iris.
Lens* The structure behind the pupil that focuses a precise image onto the retina.
Retina* Primary visual receptor that converts light into neural signals. It processes visual information such as detecting light intensity, basic edge and motion detection, and some color processing.
Fovea* Where the cones are concentrated that focus onto a specific object that detect color, details, and central focus.
Blind Spot* Part of the visual field in which stimulation cannot be perceived because of the image falls on the optic disk which has no photoreceptors.
Rods* Photoreceptors in the retina that can detect low light levels, and peripheral vision.
Cones* Photoreceptors in the fovea that require more light for activation, and allow us to see details, and color.
Bipolar Cells Cells found in the retina that transmit visual signals.
Ganglion Cells Neurons in the retina that transmit electrical messages concerning visual signals.
