Water Unit Geo Test Review

What is Infiltration? The process where water on the ground soaks into the soil.
What is Condensation? The process where water vapor becomes liquid.
What is Transpiration? The process whereby plants give off excess moisture.
What are Cumulus Clouds? Fluffy white clouds that form when moist air rises and cools.
What are Stratus Clouds? Low, flat, grey clouds that form in horizontal layers.
What are Cirrus Clouds? Wispy high clouds made of ice crystals.
What are Lakes? Large body of standing water surrounded by land.
What are Rivers? Large stream of freshwater that flows towards other bodies of water.
What is a Wetland? Land that is saturated with water.
Why are wetlands important? Wetlands are important because they filter water, protect from floods, and support wildlife.
What is the Hydrologic cycle? The continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of earth.
What is the Lithosphere? Brittle outer layer of the earth,also known as the crust.
What is the Biosphere? Includes all life, greenland, bacteria, and people.
What is the Atmosphere? Invisible layer of gases that protects earth.
What is Evaporation? The process of turning liquid into vapor .
What is Precipitation? Raining
What are the names of all the oceans? Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, Indian, Southern Atlantic
What are the names of the seas? Mediterranean, Carribean, Arabian, Adriatic
How are tides caused? Tides caused by the gravitional pull of the moon and sun.
How are waves caused? Waves are caused by the movement of energy through water.
What are Tsunamis? Tsunamis are giant waves caused by tectonic movement on the floor of the ocean.
How are ocean currents driven? Ocean currents are driven by wind and the density differences in the water.
What are seas? Seas are smaller bodies of the ocean that meet land
What are tides? Tides are the rise and fall of water
What are the two types of currents? Surface and deep currents
