Chap 9-Intelligence

QuestionAnswer
Psychometric Approach measures how people differ in mental abilities (ex: following directions, matching colors, etc.)
Fluid Intelligence your ability to think quickly, solve new problems, and use logic
Crystallized Intelligence the knowledge and skills you've learned and can apply in familiar situations
Multiple Intelligences the idea that there are many kinds of intelligence (musical, linguistic, physical, etc.)
Aptitude ability to learn new things (link to fluid intelligence)
Achievement what people have already learned (linked to crystallized intelligence)
Intelligence Quotient (IQ) Test measures and predicts school performance or learning ability
Mental Age the level of performance that matches a typical child of a certain age
Stanford-Binet IQ Test a well known test measuring reasoning and knowledge from age 2 - adulthood
Adaptive testing adjusts the difficulty of questions based on your answer
Standardization making sure a test is given and scored the same way for everyone
Norms average scores that show how people usually perform on a test
Down Syndrome a genetic condition caused by an extra chromosome that leads to developmental delays
Flynn Effect the trend of rising average IQ scores over generations
Test-retest reliability the correlation between scores on a first test and retest
Reliability how consistent and dependable a test's results are
Validity how well a test measures what it's supposed to measure
Biased when a test unfairly favors or disadvantages certain groups
