Theme and Its Development
| Term | Definition |

| Theme | The bigger message about life, people, or society the author is trying to share |
| Propel the action | To push the story forward by adding events, problems, or suspense that keep the reader interested |
| Character motivation | The reason why a character does something |
| Character traits | The qualities that describe a character, like appearance, personality, or habits |
| Setting | Where and when the story takes place |
| Conflict | The main problem or struggle in the story |
| Supporting details | Facts, examples, or quotes that explain or prove the central idea or theme |
| Development | How the author builds and adds to ideas or events in a text |
| Plot | The series of events in a story, usually starting with a problem and ending with how it’s solved |
