TermDefinition
Homeostasis The process by which the body maintains a stable internal environment despite external changes.
Metabolism The sum of all chemical reactions that occur in the body to maintain life, including both breaking down and building up molecules.
Cell Membrane A semi-permeable barrier that surrounds the cell, controlling the movement of substances in and out.
Tissue A group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function in the body.
Organ System A group of organs that work together to carry out major body functions, such as the circulatory or digestive system.
Skeletal System The body system that provides structure, support, protection, and helps with movement through the attachment of muscles.
Muscular System The system responsible for movement, posture, and heat production through the contraction of muscle tissues.
