| Extended Constructed Response (ECR) | A typed or written answer using all parts of the RACES strategy |
| Short Constructed Response(SCR) | A typed or written answer using RAC |
| Summary | Retelling the main events of a story in the order that they happen |
| Paraphrase | Retelling the author's words or ideas from the text in your own words. |
| Event | Something that happens in a story |
| Dictionary Entry Question | A question where you choose the correct meaning of how a word is being used in the story. |
| Paragraph | A numbered section of the story |
| Multi-Select Question | A question that has TWO correct answers |
| Multi-Part Question | A question with a Part A and a Part B. The answer you get for Part A will help you find the answer for Part B. |
| Setting | Where or when the story takes place |
| Characters | The people or animals that the story is about |
| Theme | The lesson or message that can be learned from the story. |
| Author's Purpose | The reason the author wrote the story |
| Drama | A type of story that is meant to be acted out on stage |
| Script | The written text of a drama that is meant to be read aloud by actors. |
| Realistic Fiction | A story that has fake characters and events, but they could happen in real life. |
| Stage Directions | Part of the script written in parentheses and in italics that tell the actors how to move or speak their lines |
| Synonym | A word with the SAME or SIMILAR meaning |
| Antonym | A word with an OPPOSITE meaning |
| Plot | The events that happen in a story |
| Fable | A story with animal characters that teaches a lesson |
| Fairytale | A fiction story with magical elements or events that could not happen in real life |
| Sensory Language | A sentence or phrase that describes something using one of the five senses |
| Poetry | A type of story made of stanzas and lines |
| Stanza | A group of lines in a poem |
| Line | A single line of a poem |
| Rhyme | Words that have the same ending SOUND |
| Free-Verse | A poem that does NOT have rhyming words |
| Inference | What you can figure out about a story using evidence and clues from the text (a smart guess!) |
| Dialouge | The words that characters say in the story. Example: "Do you want to play tag at recess?" Sarah asked. |
