| nerves | electrical cables formed from bundle of axons |
| interneurons | neuron which transmit impulses between other neurons (where complexity resides) |

| reflexes | automatic responses to stimuli |
| endocrine system | interconnected with nervous system |
| hormones | chemical messages that travel in blood and affect tissues - influence interest in sex, food and aggression |
| endocrine messages vs nervous system messages | endocrine messages are slower than nervous system but tend to outlast effects |
| adrenal glands | on top of kidneys and release epinephrine and norepinephrine (adrenaline and noradrenaline) - increases heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar |
| pituitary gland | located in core brain controlled by hypothalamus - direct endocrine glands to release hormones |
