emancipation the process of being set free from legal, social, or political restrictions, often used in the context of freeing enslaved people.
manufacture to make something, especially on a large scale using machinery.
segregation the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or establishment.
mechanization the process of introducing machines or automation into a process, especially one that was previously done manually.
reconstruction the process of rebuilding something after it has been damaged or destroyed; it also refers specifically to the period after the Civil War in the United States.
labor the physical or mental effort used to produce goods or services.
suffrage the right to vote in political elections.
factory a building or complex of buildings where goods are manufactured or processed, typically by machines.
amendment a minor change or addition designed to improve a text or piece of legislation, especially the US Constitution.
assembly a group of people gathered together for a particular purpose; in manufacturing, the process of fitting parts together.
petition a formal written request, typically signed by many people, appealing to authority with respect to a particular cause.
innovation the process of creating and implementing a new or significantly improved product, process, or service.
boycott a punitive ban that forbids relations with certain groups, cooperation with a policy, or the handling of goods.
capitalism an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
integration the action or process of combining different things into a unified whole; it can also refer to incorporating individuals of different groups as equals into society.
union an organized association of workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests; a labor union.
protest a public demonstration of disapproval toward an idea, policy, or action.
geology the scientific study of the origin, history, and structure of the Earth.
astronomy the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole.
tectonic relating to the structure of the earth's crust and the large-scale processes that operate within it.
galaxy a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars held together by gravity.
erosion the process by which the surface of the earth is worn away by the action of wind, water, or ice.
nebula a cloud of gas and dust in outer space, often a region where stars are born.
sediment solid material, moved by water, wind, or ice, that settles on the surface of land or the bottom of a body of water.
quasar a massive and extremely remote celestial object that emits large amounts of energy and is believed to contain a supermassive black hole.
mineral a naturally occurring, inorganic substance with a distinct chemical composition and crystalline structure.
supernova a star that suddenly increases greatly in brightness because of a catastrophic explosion that ejects most of its mass.
igneous rock formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava.
asteroid a small, rocky body orbiting the Sun.
metamorphic rock that has undergone transformation by heat, pressure, or other natural agencies.
comet a celestial object consisting of a nucleus of ice and dust and, when near the Sun, a "tail" of gas and dust particles pointing away from the Sun.
fossil the remains or impression of a prehistoric plant or animal embedded in rock and preserved in petrified form.
satellite an object in space that orbits around a larger object, such as a planet or star.
seismic relating to or caused by an earthquake or earth vibration.
cosmos the universe regarded as an orderly, harmonious system.
volcano a vent in the earth's crust from which melted rock (magma), ash, and gases escape.
orbit the regular, repeating path that an object in space takes around another one.
