Argument n. an attempt to persuade someone on a topic open to debate
Author's perspective n. how the author fells about the situation or topic
Claim/thesis n. a statement of the author's point of view
Counterclaim n. an opposing claim that disagrees with the thesis
Credible source n. a reliable resource the writer can use to cite information
Formal style n. using a professional choice of words and and tone/attitude
Reasoning n. the explanation of why the author feels the way he or she does
Bias n. general tendency or leaning in one direction; partial toward one view over another
Refute v. to disprove a statement or theory
Relevant information n. facts, details, examples, etc. that supports the writer's reasoning
sound/logical adj. complete or comprehensive. A way to describe an argument when it's based on logic/common sense
Sufficient evidence n. when there's enough support to make he argument convincing
Transition n. words or phrases, or clauses that help the reader see how our ideas fit together to support your topic
Fact n. information that can be proven, measured, or observed
Opinion n. one's beliefs, thoughts, feelings, or emotions about a topic; point-of-view (informational reading standrads)
Rebuttal n. response to opponent's counter claim
Cede v. formally give up rights I'm gonna cede my bed to my cat.
Enterprise n. business venture or company I wanna own a private enterprise.
Capitalistic adj. characteristic of an economy system that is privately owned I am living in a capitalistic economy.
Threatening adj. dangerous The cat took a threatening step towards a mouse.
Extinct adj. no longer in existence If I die, I will be extinct.
Mutation n. change in form, nature, or qualities Mutation on cats were their cuteness.
Prevailing adj. the idea or feeling that is the strongest The mouse felt the prevailing fear in his vein.
Distinguish v. to tell the difference between things, or to show what makes something or someone stand out You can distinguish the difference between a rat and a mouse.
Corroborate v. to support an idea, statement, or character's point of view by giving more evidence or proof I corroborate to the statement, that 'cats are better than dogs'.
Condensing v. making something shorter or more compact by removing extra words or details, while keeping the main idea The cheese is on the condensing process.
Reveal (v) - to show or illustrate The cat revealed a pile of mouse.
Accurately (adv) - to correctly identify The cat accurately hunted the rats.
Consistent adj. - done in the same way each time A cat ate a mouse in a consistent manner.
Evident adj. - clearly seen or obvious It was evident who stole the cheese.
Latin suffix -tion Turns a verb into a noun, "the act of" Tradition - My family's tradition is to cook chicken with rice.
Latin suffix -ly Turns an adj into an adverb Accurately- The cat accurately hunted the rats.
