| bursectomy | surgical removal of a bursa |

| chondroplasty | surgical repair of damaged cartilage |

| hematopoietic | hemopoietic, pertaining to formation of blood cells |

| lordosis | swayback, abnormal increase in the forward curvatureof the lumbar spine |
| myeloma | cancer that occurs in blood making cells found in red bone marrow |

| osteoarthritis | wear and tear arthritis, commonly associated with aging |

| osteonecrosis | death of bone tissue due to a lack of sufficient blood supply |
| osteoporosis | marked loss of bone density and an increase in bone porosity that is frequently associated with aging |
| osteorrhaphy | surgical suturing or wiring together of bones |
| osteosclerosis | abnormal hardening of bone or bone marrow |
| periostitis | inflammation of the periosteum |
| periosteum | tough fibrous connective tissue that forms the outermost covering of bone |
| rheumatologist | physician who specializes in diagnosis and treatment of arthritis |
| spondylosis | spinal osteoarthritis, degenerative disorder of the vertebrae that can cause the loss of normal spinal structure and function |
| subluxation | partial displacement of a bone from its joint |
