| Contingency | If a specific behavior occurs, then a particular consequence will follow |
| Environmental | All of the events and stimuli that affect the behavior of an organism |
| Phylogenic | Behavior occurs because of the natural-selection history of the species |
| Stimulus | Any physical event or condition, including the organism's own behavior |
| Respondent Conditioning | The process by which a conditioned stimulus elicits a conditioned response because it signals a reduction on the delay to the unconditioned stimulus |
