Physical and Chemical Changes 7th Grade

TermDefinition
Physical Property a characteristic that can be observed without changing the substance
Density the amount of mass in a given volume
Solubility the ability of a substance to dissolve in another substance
Boiling Point the temperature at which a liquid changes to a gas
Conductivity the ability to transfer heat or electricity
Malleability the ability to be hammered or rolled into sheets
Ductility the ability to be pulled into wires
Luster how shiny a substance appears
Melting Point the temperature at which a solid changes to a liquid
Chemical Property a characteristic that describes how a substance reacts with others
Flammability the ability to burn in the presence of oxygen
Reactivity the ability to combine with or change into other substances
Physical Change a change in form or appearance that does not create a new substance
Phase Change when matter changes from one state (solid, liquid, gas) to another
Mixture a combination of substances that are not chemically combined
Chemical Change a change that produces one or more new substances
Precipitate a solid that forms from a solution during a chemical reaction
Gas Production bubbling or fizzing that shows a chemical reaction
Color Change evidence of a chemical reaction when a new substance forms
Temperature Change energy released or absorbed during a chemical reaction
Law of Conservation of Mass matter is not created or destroyed in a chemical reaction
