| personal pronoun | a pronoun that refers to the one speaking (1st person), the one spoken to (2nd person), or the one spoken about (3rd person). |
| reflexive pronoun | a pronoun that ends in self/selves; refers to the subject and plays an important role in the sentence |
| intensive pronoun | a pronoun that ends in self/selves; emphasizes a noun or another pronoun. |
| demonstrative pronoun | a pronoun that points out a person, a place, a thing, or an idea. |
| interrogative pronoun | a pronoun that introduces a question. |
| relative pronoun | a pronoun that introduces a dependent clause. |
| indefinite pronoun | a pronoun that refers to non-specific persons, places, or things. |
| adjective | a word used to modify or describe a noun or a pronoun. |
| action verb | expresses either physical or mental activity |
| linking verb | connects the subject to a word or word group that identifies or describes the subjects |
| transitive verb | a verb that expresses an action directed toward a person, place, thing, or idea. |
| intransitive verb | expresses action without passing it to a receiver. |
| adverb | modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb; tells where, when, how, or to what extent |
| preposition | a word that shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word. |
| conjunction | a word used to join words or groups of words |
| interjection | a word used to express emotion |
