| ASHP | American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, pharmacy association founded in 1942 |
| ASHP's Model Curriculum for Pharmacy Technician Education and Training | program that provides details on how to meet the ASHP goals for pharmacy technician training |
| BOP | Board of Pharmacy, state-managed agency that licenses pharmacists and may either register or licenses pharmacy technicians to work in pharmacy |
| CPhT | Certified Pharmacy Technician, a technician who has passed the national certification examination |
| Closed Door Pharmacy | A pharmacy in which medications are called in from institutions, such as long-term care facilities, and are then delivered; they are not open to the public |
| Communication | The ability to express oneself in such a way that one is readily and clearly understood |

| TPN | Total Parental Nutrition, Large-volume intravenous nutrition administered through the central vein (subclavian vein), which allows for a higher concentration of solutions |
