Pure Substances, Solutions, and Mixtures

compound a substance composed of two or more elements whose atoms are bonded in a specific ratio

heterogeneous mixture a mixture that does not have a uniform composition
homogeneous mixture a mixture that has a uniform composition; it's also known as a solution

physical property any characteristic of matter that can be observed or measured without a change in its chemical composition
pure substance matter made of only one type of particle; an element or a compound
solution a mixture that has a uniform composition; it's also known as a homogeneous mixture
uniform composition a mixture's parts are evenly distributed; example salt water
