Organic Contains carbon
Polymerization The chemical reaction in which monomers are joined together to form a polymer
Carbohydrates Molecules that contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Used to store and release energy and structural support .
Monosaccharides A single sugars, building block of carbohydrates, and provides energy to cells
Polysaccharides A large molecule (polymer) made of the monomer monosaccharide, such as starch and cellulose
Proteins Made of amino acids and contains the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen (and sometimes sulfur)
Polypeptide Used to form proteins and consists of amino acids.
Proteins Made of one or more polypeptide. The shape and size is directly linked to its function
Lipids A polymer made from fatty acids and glycerol. Not usually soluble in water. Contains the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen
Glycerol A three carbon molecule used with fatty acids to form lipids
Fatty acids A chain of carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen. Used with glycerol to form lipids
Nucleic acids Polymer that is made of the monomer nucleotides. Includes DNA & RNA. Contains the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus
Nucleotides The building blocks of nucleic acids
Homeostasis Maintaining internal conditions as the internal and external environment changes
