Computer Basics Notes

QuestionAnswer
A computer does what four things? Accepts, Processes, Stores,and Provides data.
The CPU is what of the computer? The brain microprocessor.
Central processing speed is measured in what? Hertz.
The CPU is responsible for doing three things, what are they? Fetch, decode, and excute instructions.
There are six forms of memory, what are they? RAM (Random Access Memory), ROM (Read Only Memory), Caching, Virtual Memory, Flash Memory, and BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).
Bytes are what? How storage space or memory is measured.
A main circuit board where all the internal components connect is what? The motherboard.
What can be found on the motherboard? CPU, Graphics card, sound card, memory, expansion slots.
What is vital for the computer to operate and an electrical transformer that regulates electricity used? Power supply.
The hard disk is what? Large-capacity storage that holds programs and documents.
What are the two purposes of the Operating System? Manages hardware and software resources and provides a stable way for applications to deal with hardware without knowing all the hardware details.
The IDE is the Integrated Drive Electronics Controller that does what? Serves as the primary interface for hard drives.
