Calcium is one of the mineral constituents of bone
Cartilage tissue is flexible, rubbery connective tissue found on joint surfaces and in the embryonic skeleton
condyle is a knuckle-like process at the end of a bone near the joint
Cranial bones are skull bones and are identified with the proper terms of frontal, ethmoid, parietal, sphenoid, temporal, and occipital
diaphysis is the shaft or mid-portion of a long bone
disk or disc is a flat, round plate-like structure.
intervertebral disk is a fibrocartilaginous substance between the vertebrae.
epiphyseal plate is a cartilaginous area at the end of long bones where lengthwise growth takes place.
epiphysis is the end of a long bone.
Facial bones are bones of the face and their proper terms are lacrimal, mandible, maxillae, nasal, vomer and zygomatic
False ribs are ribs 8 - 10 in the paired 12 that are within the body
fissure is a narrow, slit-like opening between bones
Floating ribs are ribs numbered 11 and 12
foramen is an opening or passage in bones where blood vessels and nerves enter and leave. For example, the foramen magnum is the opening of the occipital bone at the base of the skull through which the spinal cord passes through
fossa is a shallow cavity in a bone
malleolus is the round process found on both sides of the ankle joint
olecranon is a large process forming the elbow
Ossification is the process of bone formation
osteoblast is a bone cell that helps form bone tissue
osteoclast is a bone cell that absorbs and removes unwanted bone tissue
periosteum is the membrane surrounding bones
pubic symphysis is the area of fusion of the two pubic bones
hemopoiesis Red bone marrow is found in bone and it is a site
paranasal sinus A sinus is a cavity within a bone
tubercle is a small rounded process on a bone
The vertebra is the back bone and is divided into the cervical vertebrae, which is the neck region, the thoracic vertebrae which is the upper back, and the lumbar vertebrae which is the lower back
diaphyses of long bones The yellow bone marrow is fatty tissue found
